Event Details:
Artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities for investigators, analysts, and fraud teams to work more efficiently with open source information—but it also requires a disciplined approach. In financial crime and fraud-related investigations, AI can help accelerate research, organize large volumes of information, and support analytical workflows, but it does not replace sound investigative judgment, source validation, or defensible methodology.
This session will examine practical ways for investigators to incorporate AI into OSINT-driven work, particularly in environments characterized by fraud risk, identity misuse, social engineering, compliance concerns, and technology-enabled crime. Through demonstration and discussion, participants will see how AI can assist with tasks such as refining search strategies, developing leads from limited identifiers, organizing findings, and identifying patterns across dispersed information.
The session will also address the limitations and risks of using AI in investigative work, including hallucinations, incomplete or misleading outputs, concerns about source reliability, and overconfidence in automated results. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of where AI can add value, where caution is required, and how to apply these tools in a way that remains analytically rigorous and operationally useful.
