ACFE’s Ratley Named One of Accounting Today’s Top 100 for 2014

For the third year in a row, James D. (Jim) Ratley, CFE, president and CEO of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), has been selected by Accounting Today as “One of the Top 100 Most Influential People.”

For the third year in a row, James D. (Jim) Ratley, CFE, president and CEO of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), has been selected by Accounting Today as “One of the Top 100 Most Influential People.” Ratley’s selection signifies the importance of professional fraud fighters among the ranks of business leaders, government figures and luminaries who influence the accounting profession. 

Ratley is profiled, along with the other honorees, in a special supplement to Accounting Today magazine’s Sept./Oct. 2014 issue. Under Ratley’s leadership, the ACFE has grown to more than 70,000 members in over 150 countries, and is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of training and resources. 

“Fraud, unfortunately, never goes away,” the Accounting Today article states. “Fortunately, Ratley and his association are around to keep us up to date with their regular Report to the Nations, but also to give accountants the education and credentials they need to help fight it.” 

Ratley said that being chosen for the Accounting Today Top 100 list is a “distinct honor.” 

“I’m proud to be included again among the Top 100, and I thank the editors of Accounting Today for their selection,” Ratley said. “Most of all, I appreciate the recognition that Accounting Today gives the anti-fraud profession as a whole. 

“Fraud used to be a taboo subject, and was often dealt with quietly – if at all,” Ratley said. “Today, however, most business leaders know that prevention and detection are key. 

“There are thousands of fraud examiners and other anti-fraud professionals working to stop the next Madoff or Enron,” Ratley said. “They deserve our gratitude and our support.” 

In 2006, Ratley was named president of the ACFE, and in 2011, he was also named CEO. In this role, he works to promote the ACFE to the public and other professional organizations and continues to assist in the development of anti-fraud products and services to meet the needs of the ACFE's members. 

In addition to his executive duties, Ratley serves as a member of the ACFE's faculty and teaches regularly at workshops and conferences on a variety of fraud-related subjects. Ratley is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas, where he teaches a masters-level fraud examination course in the McCombs School of Business (Accounting Department).
