The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) has appointed John Gill, J.D., CFE, as President of the ACFE; John Warren, J.D. CFE, will take over as Chief Executive Officer of the world’s largest anti-fraud organization.
The ACFE announced today that John Gill, J.D., CFE, has been named President after nearly 30 years of service to the organization. John Warren, J.D., CFE, will assume the duties of CEO; he most recently served as the ACFE’s Chief Strategy Officer.
Gill and Warren will replace President and CEO Bruce Dorris, J.D., CFE, CPA, who transitions into the next phase of his career. Dorris is the second-longest tenured CEO in the ACFE’s 35-year history. Prior to becoming CEO, he served for nearly 10 years as the organization’s Vice President and program director. As President and CEO, Dorris led the ACFE through the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and helped raise the company’s global profile. ACFE membership increased to more than 90,000 members and nearly 200 chapters around the world under his leadership.
Gill joined the ACFE in 1995 as its general counsel before becoming both the manager and director of the ACFE’s research department. In 2009, he was promoted to Vice President of Education, and in 2022, he was promoted to Chief Training Officer where he oversaw all ACFE training activities. Gill has served as an ACFE faculty member and is a co-instructor of the CFE Exam Review Course, as well as a co-author of The Fraud Examiners Manual and publisher of and contributing author to Fraud Magazine.
"Although we are sad that we will no longer be working with Bruce, you can be certain that John Warren and I are excited about the future," Gill said. "We look forward to continuing the vision of our founder and Chairman Dr. Joseph T. Wells, CFE, CPA, in providing quality service to our members and the best anti-fraud training in the world."
Warren served for 18 years as Vice President and general counsel of the ACFE. As Chief Strategy Officer, he led strategic planning processes and implemented enterprise-level strategic initiatives for the organization. He is also a co-author of the ACFE’s Report to the Nations, serves as an advisor of the ACFE Research Institute, sits on the ACFE Foundation’s Board of Directors and remains an advisory member of the ACFE Board of Regents.
"It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to lead the ACFE," Warren said. "John Gill and I are both immensely grateful to Dr. Wells and the ACFE Board of Directors for the trust they have placed in us. With trillions of dollars lost to fraud and abuse every year, the work of the ACFE and its members is absolutely critical. We intend to lead the profession into the future by providing best-in-class support and training for CFEs around the world as they continue to face new and more sophisticated challenges every day."
