Keynote Speakers Announced for 34th Annual ACFE Global Fraud Conference

The flagship event of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) will feature U.S. government leaders, industry-leading experts and a notorious fraudster all leading discussions on emerging trends, techniques and perspectives at the world’s largest anti-fraud conference.

AUSTIN, Texas, April 19, 2023 – The ACFE has announced its featured speakers for the 34th Annual ACFE Global Fraud Conference, which will be held June 11–16, 2023, in Seattle, Washington, and online. The conference is expected to draw more than 5,000 attendees both in-person and virtually and will be emceed by award-winning journalist, Jo Ling Kent. This year’s featured speakers are Michael E. Horowitz, Hester M. Peirce, Miranda Patrucic, Dr. David Lieberman, Sheila Warren, Andy Greenberg and Billy McFarland. In addition to the keynotes, the conference will offer more than 90 educational sessions on a range of topics including fraud schemes and case studies, emerging trends and technologies, and much more. 
 
Michael E. Horowitz is the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Since 2012, Horowitz has led the DOJ’s efforts to deter fraud, waste and abuse within the department. Horowitz also leads the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee to monitor emergency aid spending since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
 
Hester M. Peirce is a commissioner on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Prior to appointment as commissioner in 2018, she served as senior counsel on the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, as well as working as a staff attorney in the SEC’s Division of Investment Management.  
 
Billy McFarland is the co-founder of Fyre Festival, a fraudulent luxury music festival intended to be held in the Bahamas. For his role in defrauding vendors, artists and guests out of millions of dollars, McFarland was convicted on two counts of wire fraud and sentenced to six years in prison; He was released from prison in 2022. The ACFE does not compensate convicted fraudsters. 
 
Miranda Patrucic is the award-winning editor in chief of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a network of investigative journalists dedicated to exposing crime and corruption around the world. Patrucic was one of the OCCRP’s first employees after it was established, and she was promoted to editor in chief in 2023. 
 
Dr. David Lieberman is a psychotherapist who works with law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the CIA, training them on human behavior and how to spot liars. Dr. Lieberman has authored several books, including “Mindreader: The New Science of Deciphering What People Really Think, What They Really Want, and Who They Really Are,” which dives into the art of reading people with the help of psycholinguistics. 
 
Sheila Warren is the CEO for Crypto Council for Innovation, an organization devoted to helping advance cryptocurrency technologies through research, education and advocacy. She also co-hosts “Money Reimagined,” a TV show and podcast on digital currencies news site CoinDesk. 
 
Andy Greenberg is a journalist and author who is currently a senior writer for WIRED magazine. Greenberg’s main area of interest is cybersecurity. His recently published book, “Tracers in the Dark: The Global Hunt for the Crime Lords of Cryptocurrency,” looks at criminal investigations involving the difficult task of tracking cryptocurrency. 
 
Conference emcee Jo Ling Kent is an award-winning TV journalist who has covered business, technology and the economy for CNN, ABC and Fox Business Network. Most recently, she was a business and tech correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC.
